FIRST EXPERIENCE

 We have just learned that many refugees do not have legal status despite having lived in a country for years. They do not have access to formal education, health services, or fair employment opportunities. This is surprising to us because we would expect everyone in the country to be treated equally.

Reflection

  We felt truly excited while working on this project, especially knowing that it can be continued in our next semester through Usrah In Action. Throughout the process, we’ve learned so many valuable things from writing a proposal, to discovering the various refugee-related activities that have taken place at IIUM, and much more. We spent days and nights together to complete this project. Even though it’s still a plan, we can already imagine the success it could achieve if implemented in real life.  In addition, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our lecturer, Madam Khadijah, for her guidance and support in helping us complete this project. It has opened up many opportunities for us to explore new knowledge and skills. We hope that our project and ideas will meet her expectations and reflect our passion.

IMPROVEMENT

However, there are several aspects that require improvement to enhance the initiatives that we have carried out. As previously explained, our team conducted some of the online researches by gathering information regarding refugees through social media platforms and library resources. Despite these efforts, we acknowledge that they may not have been sufficient. The findings of our research may lack accuracy and depth, as all of the data collected was based solely on reading materials and didn't capture the real-life experiences of refugees. Hence, we should conduct interviews with representatives from refugee organizations or refugee themselves , hoping to hear their personal stories—about their journeys and daily challenges. Additionally, visiting areas where refugee communities live, such as urban neighborhoods or camps, will allow us to observe their living conditions and understand the obstacles they face in accessing basic necessities, including education and healthcare.
